Finca Regalo de Dios Nicaragua

$9.28 - $43.05

The farm Un Regalo de Dios is located in the Municipality of Mozonte in the department of Nueva Segovia in Northern Nicaragua and is owned by Luis Alberto Balladarez Moncada, who also runs Las Segovias wet mill as well.  Our lot last year was from the Maragogype plants (sub species of Arabica), which sadly has been pretty low yielding according to Luis.  The upshot is that Regalo didn't produce enough Maragogype to export to the US.  Instead, we have a 100% caturra lot from a plot of Regalo called El Aserradero.  It's higher in elevation than the Maragogype trees, where clouds hang continually.  In 2010, the SCAA voted coffee from the Regalo farm the best Nicaraguan coffee of the year and that same year, it took 3rd place in the Cup of Excellence.  Sr. Balladarez donated all the CoE money to a church and towards building homes in his home town.  Regalo is also UTZ certified.

For a washed coffee, this is a very sweet cup.  Lots of fruit notes in the fragrance, aroma, and in the cup.  They combine with a cane sugar sweetness, a pleasant, well balanced, apple-like acidity, and a medium body.  The finish is wonderful; the taste of cola and chocolate lingers on the tongue for quite some time.  This makes great single origin espresso as well!
